Recent goings-on, from the Squire

Hello everyone. It has been a long, cold winter and we are very eager to start the dance out season, though we have managed the odd dance out through the Baltic winter. The practice season has been successful. We have worked hard, and managed to get 1 or 2 new members out in full kit. Well done to them and our Dance Master Steve who has got them there. We are also very excited and super proud to now have a Wakefield Junior Morris side. Ages ranging from 4 to 13. 4 of the juniors have danced out in their own set and with the regular side, they are AWESOME. The future is looking strong for Wakefield Morris Dancers.

We always welcome new members whether they are brand new to Morris dancing or experienced. We practice Monday nights from 8pm to 10pm, please contact us on here or our Facebook page for more info. So the dance out season ahead....is very busy.

Throughout the winter we have had dozens of invites to perform up and down country, one of which coming from our great friends Customs & Exiles, to join and dance with them in Hayling Island! This is a long way for us but we are very much looking forward to it.

For the past few years we have started our dance out season by dancing in our home town of Wakefield on Easter Saturday, which this year falls on the 31st March. This year we will start at The Hop at high noon. It's generally a very relaxed day dancing in various places in town and hopping from pub to pub. Come along and join us for a pint or just for a chat. Just 2 days later on Easter Monday we are entertaining the crowds at the world famous Gawthorpe World Coal Carrying Championship!

So on to the big one!

Ossett Beercart 2018

This year will be our 5th annual Ossett Beercart and we love it. The Beercart wheels are certainly in motion and everything is in place for another fantastic weekend in Ossett. We have 11 teams already signed up for you all to watch and enjoy. The beer for the Beer festival in the town hall is being brewed and we'll have over 40 different beers, 200 litres of ciders, a prosecco bar, and new for this year we will also have some craft beers for you to try, with proceeds going to Wakefield Hospice. The Beercart itself will soon be rolled out of it stores, will be cleaned, painted and polished for the big day....you may even see it appear at another local event before the Beercart weekend 😉 To round off the dance season, Wakefield will be appearing at Bromyard folk festival 2018. We love this festival and thank you to our friend Ross Grant for inviting us again this year. It's always a good end to the summer.

Well that’s it from me for now. If you need to know anything about us or would like to contact us we are very active over social media via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Myself and the team are looking forward to seeing you this summer. All the very best Benny Squire of Wakefield Morris Dancers
